1. Acceptance of these Terms
By accessing or using the Raíces website, including its educational resources, event information, online shop, job board, and related features (collectively, the “Services”), you agree to these Terms & Conditions (“Terms”). If you do not agree, please discontinue use. Additional written terms may apply to specific products, events or activities. Nothing in these Terms limits rights or protections that cannot lawfully be excluded.
2. About Raíces
Raíces is a community-rooted initiative based in Toronto, Ontario that provides information, opportunities and connections for youth and the wider community. Website content is provided for general informational and educational purposes, and does not constitute professional, legal, immigration, financial, recruitment or employment advice.
3. Youth participation and account use
Our activities and resources may be of interest to young people. Participants must satisfy the age requirements and eligibility conditions for individual events, opportunities, purchases and third-party services. Where parental or guardian permission is required, it must be obtained before participation. A parent or guardian should assist younger users with purchases and consent decisions, as applicable.
4. Third-party jobs, volunteer opportunities and external links
Job and volunteer opportunities may be provided by independent employers, organizations or job boards. Raíces is not the employer, recruiter, placement agency or guarantor of these opportunities unless specifically stated. Postings may become inaccurate, change or expire without notice. Applicants must verify job requirements, eligibility, compensation, workplace conditions, deadlines, and the identity of an employer on the original source before applying. Raíces does not control third-party websites or hiring decisions and is not responsible for their content or acts, subject to applicable law. Never send money or sensitive identifying information to an unverified recruiter. Raíces may edit, archive or remove a listing at its discretion.
5. Online shop, orders and payment
Goods or digital products offered through the Raíces shop are subject to the descriptions, prices, availability, taxes, delivery details and other disclosures shown at checkout. Prices and availability may change before an order is accepted. A submitted order is an offer to purchase and is not accepted until Raíces sends an order confirmation or otherwise accepts it. Payment may be processed by independent payment providers under their own terms. Raíces may reject or cancel an order where legally permitted, including for listing errors, unavailable stock or suspected fraud. Customers are responsible for providing accurate delivery and contact information.
6. Delivery, digital access, returns and refunds
Shipping methods, estimated delivery times, digital delivery arrangements, exchange conditions and any product-specific return policy should be disclosed on the relevant product or checkout page. Unless otherwise stated, delivery estimates are not guaranteed. Contact Raíces promptly about damaged, missing, incorrect or inaccessible purchases. Statutory rights, cancellation rights, consumer guarantees and remedies applicable to your purchase prevail over any inconsistent website policy. Nothing here creates a blanket “no refunds” policy.
7. Events, participation, and safety
Participation in in-person or online events is subject to published eligibility, registration requirements, codes of conduct, venue rules and reasonable safety instructions. Event schedules, speakers, accessibility arrangements and capacity may change. Participants remain responsible for their personal belongings and appropriate conduct. Raíces may refuse or end participation for unsafe, unlawful, disruptive or harassing conduct, consistent with applicable legal obligations.
8. Photography, video, and event media use
Raíces events may include photography, video recording or livestreaming for documentation and communication. Raíces may wish to share event photographs or recordings through its website, newsletters, social media, presentations and promotional materials. Attendees will be informed of recording activities through event notices, registration materials and/or onsite signage. Where consent is required for identifiable photographs, interviews or promotional use, Raíces will obtain appropriate meaningful permission rather than relying solely on attendance as a blanket release. For minors, Raíces will apply age-appropriate consent practices and seek parent or guardian authorization where required. Participants may raise a concern, decline optional promotional photography where reasonably possible, or request review of a published image by contacting Raíces. Consent may be withdrawn subject to applicable law and practical limitations, such as materials already lawfully distributed. Incidental crowd images and editorial coverage will be assessed under applicable law and the circumstances of the event.
9. Privacy and communications
Information submitted through registrations, contact forms, shop checkouts or other interactions will be handled according to applicable privacy laws and any separately published Privacy Policy. Do not upload confidential or sensitive third-party information without authority. Promotional email or text messages will only be sent where an appropriate legal basis and required consent exist, and will include identification and an unsubscribe option as required by Canadian law. Contact Raíces to ask about access, corrections or removal of personal information, as applicable.
10. Website materials and intellectual property
Unless stated otherwise, Raíces or its licensors own the website design, text, graphics, logos, event photography and other original materials. Content may not be copied, modified, distributed or commercially republished without permission or another lawful basis. Trademarks, logos, job advertisements, linked content and other materials belonging to third parties remain their respective owners’ property. Linking to or summarizing a third-party source does not imply endorsement.
11. Submissions and acceptable use
If you submit a review, message, event image, opportunity, or other material, you represent that you have the rights and permissions necessary to share it and that it is accurate and lawful to the best of your knowledge. You grant Raíces a non-exclusive licence to store, display and use that submission only as reasonably needed to operate the relevant Service or for separately authorized purposes. You may not use the Services to impersonate others, harass users, post false opportunities, distribute malicious code, or infringe intellectual property or privacy rights. Raíces may moderate, correct or remove submissions as appropriate.
12. Service availability and disclaimers
Raíces aims to provide useful, accurate information but does not warrant that every resource, third-party listing, event description, website feature or product description will always be complete, current, secure or uninterrupted. To the extent permitted by law, the Services are provided on an “as available” basis. Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties, statutory consumer rights or other obligations that cannot lawfully be excluded.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Raíces will not be responsible for indirect, incidental or consequential losses arising from reliance on third-party opportunities or services, external websites, missed application deadlines, or interruptions beyond its reasonable control. This clause does not exclude or limit liability for fraud, deliberate wrongdoing, liability that cannot legally be excluded, or remedies guaranteed by consumer protection or other applicable laws.
14. Updates, interpretation, and governing law
Raíces may update these Terms by posting a revised version and an updated effective date. Changes will apply prospectively to the extent required by applicable law. These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and applicable federal laws of Canada, subject to mandatory consumer protections and other applicable jurisdictional rules. If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder continues to apply where legally possible.
